Dear Reader,
Recent months have been eventful to say the least. Just like us as at IC Immobilien Gruppe, the majority of companies had to change their internal flows completely from one day to the next: home office instead of the customary place of work, video calls rather than personal meetings, and much more besides. Not to mention the various measures that were necessary in the buildings we manage. First of all, therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all most sincerely – our many business partners and clients, and also our service providers, for the trust placed in us in these turbulent times; but above all our employees for their tremendous dedication and commitment.
In this issue of our newsletter we intend to do one thing above all, however: look ahead. Because whereas at the beginning of the lockdown things had to move quickly first and foremost, the return to a regular working day will take considerably longer. Investors, portfolio holders, corporates, property developers, service providers and many others are now facing a large number of important strategic decisions. The sum total of these decisions will ultimately be the basis for the manner in which the German real estate sector emerges from the corona crisis.
There are no historical precedents in our industry for these decisions – the situation is completely new for all of us. And it is for precisely this reason that I am firmly convinced that we will once again have to orient ourselves to the most important basic principles of our business to a greater degree. Among these is, for example, detailed knowledge of the respective regional markets, and also of the most significant real estate performance indicators. Of less importance, in contrast, will be short-lived trends and hypes. A healthy degree of conservatism will, in my opinion, do us all good in the current situation. To answer the question of where our sector is currently heading, I would like to offer a film title by way of response: Back to the future!
